Family Child Care Licensing Regulations

Each state regulates family child care differently. In Minnesota all licensed family child care is regulated by the county where the service is provided. Each county office staffs or contracts with licensors to monitor compliance with Minnesota Statute Rule 9502, the laws that regulate licensed family child care in Minnesota. All licensed family child care must comply with Minnesota Rule 9502 (link) as well as other government regulations. Whenever a provider cares for more than one other unrelated family’s child(ren), they must be licensed.
