"Providers Working for Providers"
PRESIDENT
MLFCCA OFFICES 1821 University Avenue West, Suite 324-S, St. Paul, MN 55104 HISTORY MLFCCA was established in 1973 as a nonprofit organization. MLFCCA is a statewide network of family child care providers, provider associations, support groups, and neighborhood groups. During 1973, MLFCCA began publication of it’s newsletter, MEGAPHONE. In 1978, the Child Care and Adult Food Program was included in the Association. MLFCCA began product development and sales as a revenue source in the 1980s. In 1986, the Minnesota Child Care Training Project began and in 1987 MLFCCA sponsored its first Week of the Family Child Care Provider Conference and Recognition Banquet. In 1989, MLFCCA changed its logo to keep up with the changing times. In 1991-92, the Association received a Leadership Training Grant from the Minnesota Department of Human Services. In 1992, MLFCCA began its membership options program and the association began to receive cooperative support from MnDHS(MnCFL), CACFPs, CCR&Rs, private business, and county associations. In 1993, the MLFCCA logo changed again to what we see today. The Association also received its next Leadership Training Grant. And in 1994, MLFCCA hosted the national conference for the National Association for Family Child Care. Providers from across the nation attended this successful biennial conference. The year of 1997 was a very productive and active year. MLFCCA proudly began its statewide Mentor Program, received state funding for the project, and funded its first paid position, that of Grants Coordinator. During October, the Association celebrated the 25th Annual Week of the Family Child Care Provider Conference and Recognition Banquet recognizing 59 family child care providers from across state. In honor of the celebration, the Association also began its Child Care Advocate of the Year Award recognizing a long time advocate of child care in Mr. Jim Eyer, an Anoka County Licensor. Also through its advocacy support system, MLFCCA was instrumental in helping achieve a historic level of child care funding from the State of Minnesota. During 2000, we busily planed our next conference, watched and advocated important child care legislation through the state legislature, increased and improved our statewide Mentor Program, and strengthened our ties to providers in our state, around the nation, and across the world. In 2001, we hosted the National Association of Family Child Care's annual national convention in July, bringing over 800 child care professionals to Minnesota. The MLFCCA was proud to introduce the Mentor Program to several states across the nation. At home, we moved our offices to a new, professional space at the Rosewood Office Plaza. With this move, we changed the name of the MLFCCA sponsored CACFP (Food Program) to the Minnesota Provider Nutrition Network (Currently called the MLFCCA Food Program) and introduced Milton as its new mascot. In 2002, MLFCCA hosted their first outstate Spring Conference in Willmar in March. We also celebrated our 30th anniversary as an association at the 15th annual Week of the Family Child Care Provider Conference and Banquet. The MLFCCA has written the Essential Elements in Family Child Care Program and begun working with trainers across the state to implement this program. The MLFCCA is currently working on coordinating any exciting
educational opportunities across the state of Minnesota as well as being an
advocate for providers and children. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
